The History of the Park
Ryan Bonaminio Park was originally part of Fairmount Park, which was established in 1883. Fairmount Park was one of the first parks in Riverside and was originally intended to be used as a cemetery. However, due to concerns about water contamination, the city decided to use the land for public recreation instead.

In 1910, Riverside built its first water treatment plant on the site of what is now Ryan Bonaminio Park. The land for the treatment plant was donated by local residents George and Rebecca Ryan. The Ryans also donated an additional 20 acres of land to the city for use as a public park. This land would eventually become Ryan Bonaminio Park.

The park was renamed in 2010 after Riverside Police Officer Ryan Bonaminio, who was fatally shot while on duty. The park is now dedicated to his memory.
